What Happens to the Lost?

Between 2012 and 2014, a series of stories emerged in strange corners of the literary and speculative fiction world, stories that were surreal, brutal, thoughtful, and haunted. Lost Ghosts gathers seven of these original tales, now collected for the first time in a single volume, newly revised and re-edited.

It’s a book about forgotten people and forgotten places. It’s about endings, and what might remain after everything collapses. From dystopian badlands and cursed basements to televised trials and post-human futures, Lost Ghosts asks what lingers in the wake of disappearance.

Inside the Collection:

9th Street Blues
A ruined town. A poisoned drug supply. A courier’s final route through the end of everything.

Hospital on a Hill
After a disaster in North Korea, a man suspects the humanitarian charity he donated to is a scam — and its perpetrators may be closer than he thinks.

What You See Is What You Get
Arrested for whistleblowing, Dakota finds himself the star of a nightmarish reality TV trial. But the charges keep changing.

Theotokion
In a world where no children are born, a man’s pregnant wife becomes a symbol of salvation. He wants nothing to do with it.

I Can Only Wait For The Final Amnesia
A memory-erasing bounty hunter hunts a suspect in a desert brothel, but truth and guilt are never what they seem.

Somewhere Down There
A lonely man, a new telescope, and a basement he can’t bring himself to open.

The Eden Stream
A silent young man in post-apocalyptic Toronto guides a group of desperate strangers through a ruined city, and into an uncertain future.

About the Series

Lost Ghosts is the first volume in an ongoing series, collecting short fiction written and published over the past decade. New volumes will be released regularly, gathering the 40+ stories written and sold by Trevor James Zaple since 2012. These are stories that ran in indie mags, cult anthologies, and publications that have vanished into the aether.

This series is about recovering the ghosts of fiction, giving these works a permanent home, one collection at a time.
