Idiots Rule: A Reunion Tour in Rubble

Standard

Well it’s just a simple fact: when you want something, don’t get your expectations too high. Following an ignominious altercation between Perry Ferrell and Dave Navarro on stage in Boston a few days ago, their next show in Bridgeport, CT was cancelled. That’s always the first step, of course. You cancel the next couple of shows and give off the vibe that everything’s fine, you just need to tweak some stuff. Or not tweak, as the case may be.

Then, of course, comes the thing everyone is expecting when it comes to the reunion tours of classic bands with toxic clashing personalities.

The tweet version of their ‘broke up, see ya later’ phase is pretty succinct.

To all the fans:

The band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group. As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour. Refunds for the cancelled dates will be issued at your point of purchase – or if you purchased from a third-party resale site like StubHub, SeatGeek, etc., please reach out to them direct.

Thank you, Jane’s Addiction

I mean, who didn’t see this coming? There’s a reason they broke up after Ritual de lo Habitual, and again after Strays. The fact that they spent most of the 2010s able to tour together is a miracle. Navarro’s long COVID issues prevented a lot of Jane’s touring, and it seems some animosity has come back up to the forefront in the meantime. The non-Farrell part of the band, of course, has a slightly different take on it:

Perry Farrell’s substance issues are, of course, legendary. A friend of mine went to go see Porno For Pyros back in the day and met the band backstage. He reported that Farrell was basically anesthetized on liquor, drunk to the point of incoherence. It’s sad, given what a powerful frontman he is when he’s on, but for rockers Of A Certain Age, unfortunately, that fits in with their conception of rock ‘n’ roll.

Better luck next time, I suppose, after everyone involved gets some therapy and works on themselves.

In the meantime, another classic band with a toxic relationship at its heart is gearing up for a full-on reunion tour, and against all odds it seems to be going well:
